Alocasia sanderiana var. nobilis is actually the synonym of Alocasia sanderiana. The leaves are narrow and looks like a thin jagged knife thus giving it the name Kris Plant. The origins of this plant are in the northern part Mindanao Island, Philippines. Although it is a common indoor plant in worldwide but it is critically endangered in its native range. As such a hefty fine and imprisonment is imposed for anyone who poaches this plant from the wild.
The leaves are a dark, glossy green with white venations and they usually have a reddish-purple underside. This species is also the one of the only confirmed parent species of the popular hybrid – Alocasia x amazonica or Alocasia “Polly”.
Soil: Moist and well draining potting soil. Slightly acidic soil {pH 5.5-6.5).
Water: Moderate watering. Water only when the top soil is about to go dry.
Light: Bright indirect sunlight.
Temperature: Between 15°C and 27°C.
Fertilizer: Once a month during growing season from spring to fall. An all-purpose plant fertilizer and half recommended dose is enough.
Usually, it will grow up to 195cm tall in the natural habitat with a perfect environmental conditions but we expect it will be grow up to 90-120cm tall indoors.
