Nicknamed the Stingray Alocasia, this species is cultivated horticulturally from its parent the Giant Taro: Alocasia macrorrhizos. Its leaves resemble a stingray with wide wings and a long leaf apex like a tail, hence the name.
Soil: Well-aerated and drainage soil. Prefers a soil that is slightly acidic (pH: 5.5-6.5). Recommended mix combination of equal amounts of peat, coarse potting sand or perlite, and quality soil.
Lights: Likes a lots of bright but indirect light. Leaves will burn when exposed to direct sunlight. Can grow at outdoors too as long as it is provided with shelter from exposure to midday sun.
Water: Watering regularly but not too much. Watering it when the top surface is dry. Requires more water during the rapid growth in spring and summer.
Temperature: Prefer a hot and humid space. Perfect range of temperature is between 18°C and 29°C.
Fertilizer: Every two weeks during the active growth period in spring and summer. An all-purpose organic or liquid fertilizer will be the suitable options for the plant.
Under a perfect condition, Alocasia Stingray can grow up to 458cm tall and 244cm wide at outdoors which it is the largest plant in Alocasia. If lucky, the plant will blooms but the flowers are small and less.
