RM35.00
Scientific name: Alocasia cuprea
Family: Araceae
Common Name(s): Mirror Alocasia; Jewel Alocasia; Keladi Tengkorak
The members of the genus Alocasia are popular houseplants. Alocasia cuprea, or Mirror Alocasia (due to its coppery, glossy leaves) is endemic to Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. This plant has striking leaves that may look like plastic and give off an artificial plant vibe, but they are certainly natural plants. The darker venation of the leaves also gives it a unique pattern like the rib cage of a human.
Soil: A well-draining, humus-rich soil should be given for the potting of the Alocasia cuprea because it is prone to overwatering and root rot.
Water: This type of Alocasia is a little more moisture sensitive than the others. Thus, avoid overwatering and soaking the soil in water. A medium amount of water is enough.
Temperature: Temperature range of 10-29°C.
Light: The beautiful leaves of this Alocasia fade easily when exposed to direct sunlight for a long time. Therefore, makes sure it gets enough light to thrive but isn’t receiving too much light.
Fertilizer: Alocasia cuprea are heavy feeders. Need to fertilize the plant every two weeks during growing season. An all-purpose houseplant fertilizer is suitable for it.
With a good care of the Alocasia cuprea, it may grow up to 12-30 inches tall and the leaves up to 24 inches long.
